A short film version of my brother Michael’s play ‘Eyes Full of Pornography’ that I helped him make…
“No, really Dan, if it wasn’t for you- I mean, there I was on the verge, on the cusp of entering this so-called ‘community,’ but you stopped me just in the nick of time. You, yes, it’s true, you rescued me.”
Two men recall how they first met 11 years ago in a gay bar in Soho, when Dan leant over and whispered in Matthew’s ear the chilling words which would change his life forever. A blackly comic look at how religion corrupts the innocent.
Please see what you think…
Here is an old video I made (I’ve not thought of a post this week…) with my late friend the brilliant actor Bob Newent. It was for the funding trailer that you can see in the films section.
I posted the script to Film 4 but they they didn’t go with it. I’d made the lead character unlikeable and killed him off halfway through. A big no no! The thing was I was really influenced by Elmore Leonard’s brilliant book ‘Get Shorty’. In that, the villain Bo Catlett falls off a balcony and slowly dies and he has this amazing internal monologue. Anyway the moral is to find you’re own voice and certainly not to emulate the voice of a very talented writer. I’m working on some films with my brother who is an up and coming playwright while I try and see if I have an original story in me.
Anyway here is Bob and his incredible acting. Please ignore the quality of the low res video as its shot on HDV and I had a cheap backdrop which had to be heavily darkened. It was filmed by Gopan Iyadurai ( http://www.run4media.com ) and boom mic operated by Bernard Riviere ages ago!
Ps. The Burglar George character is the bearded murderer in glorious 3D on this blog’s header.
